ScienceGym (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates science.learngym.app, a place for high school students to practice Earth and space science: short lessons built on real data, quick checks, written answers with feedback, and help with science projects, lab reports, and homework. This policy explains what data we collect when you use the service, how we use it, and what choices you have. We collect only what we need to run the product.

1. What We Collect

Account data. When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you choose to provide it, your name. It is used only to sign you in, keep your progress, and (only if you turn it on) send you a morning practice email.

Your answers. When you submit a written answer to a lesson, a Daily Drill, or a practice question, we store what you wrote, which question it answered, the result, and the AI feedback. We use this to show you your past answers and to improve the lessons.

Daily Drill and practice questions. Questions written for you by AI are stored on our server for 30 days so your answer can be scored against the exact question you saw. If you type in a topic you're studying, that topic is sent to our AI provider to write the question; the topic itself is remembered only in your browser.

Projects. When you work on a project (a lab report, a data investigation, a science fair write-up, and so on), we store the report and planning notes you write, the checks on each step, saved versions of the report, and your conversation with the project guide, so you can pick up where you left off. A project is private to you unless you turn on its read-only share link; anyone with that link can read the finished report until you turn the link off.

Homework help. When you use Homework help, we store the assignment and rubric you paste, any notes you add, the checklist built from it, the drafts you paste to check, and the feedback on each draft. If you upload a file (a Word document or PDF of the assignment, rubric, or your draft), we read the text out of it and keep the original file in private cloud storage so you can download it again; deleting the project or your account deletes the file. This is your coursework and it is visible only to you when signed in. We do not share it with your school or anyone else.

Conversations that aren't stored. “Ask the Teacher” on a lesson and the Clinic are not saved to your account. The Clinic keeps your last question and answer in your browser for up to a week so you can come back to it.

The desktop citation tool. The Windows citation tool you can download from this site runs entirely on your computer. It makes no network connections, has no account, and sends nothing to us or anyone else; your saved sources live in a file on your PC. Downloading it is an ordinary file download and is not logged against your account.

Progress and activity data. We store which lessons you've completed, your best results, your XP total, your current streak, and the choices you made on the Path. This is what powers your progress tracking.

Usage data. We collect basic aggregate data about how the product is used (pass rates, submission counts, which lessons people find hardest, how often our AI provider answers). Our analytics views show totals, not individual students.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect to:

  • Provide and operate the service
  • Remember your progress, answers, and projects
  • Send your answers, drafts, and questions to our AI provider for feedback (see Third-Party Services below)
  • Check your spelling and grammar as you type
  • Understand how the lessons are performing so we can improve them
  • Send you sign-in links and, only if you turn it on, a morning practice email you can stop with one click

We do not sell your data. We do not use your answers or projects to train AI models. We do not show ads, and we do not send you marketing email.

3. Third-Party Services

Running this product requires sharing certain data with third-party providers. Here is who they are and what they receive:

Cloudflare Workers AI

When you submit an answer, take a Daily Drill or practice question, ask the teacher or the Clinic a question, or use Homework help or a project, the text involved (your answer or draft, the question, and for Homework help the assignment you pasted) is sent to Cloudflare's AI service to generate questions and feedback. Cloudflare processes it to return a response and does not use it to train models. Their privacy policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

LanguageTool (languagetool.org)

As you type an answer, your text is sent to the LanguageTool public API to check spelling and grammar. This happens in real time, a moment after you stop typing. LanguageTool's privacy policy is at languagetool.org/legal/privacy.

Resend (resend.com)

Delivers our emails: sign-in links and, if you turn them on, the morning practice email and homework reminders. Sees your email address and the email's contents. Their privacy policy is at resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Hosting and file storage

Our server and database run on DigitalOcean infrastructure in the United States. Uploaded homework files are kept in a private cloud storage bucket that only our server can read.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies for one purpose: to keep you signed in. It is a single session cookie set by this site. It is strictly necessary for the service to function.

We use your browser's local storage for conveniences that stay on your device: that you dismissed the cookie notice, an unsent answer (so a page reload doesn't lose it), your quick-check answers, the topic you typed into the Daily Drill, your Path choices, and your last Clinic answer. Clearing your browser data removes them. No tracking cookies are set. No advertising cookies are set.

You can block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the sign-in cookie will prevent you from signing in.

5. Data Retention

We keep your account, answers, projects, and homework for as long as your account is active. AI-written practice questions are deleted after 30 days. You can delete your account at any time from Settings; that deletes your data from our database immediately. Copies in our nightly backups are overwritten within 14 days. Aggregate, non-identifiable analytics data may be kept indefinitely.

6. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access. You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction. You can request that we correct inaccurate data.
  • Deletion. You can delete your account and everything in it from Settings, or ask us to.
  • Portability. You can download all your answers yourself from Settings, or ask us for a copy.
  • Objection. You can object to how we process your data.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address in the Contact section below. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

7. Students and Children

ScienceGym is made for high school students and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.

If you are under 18, please review this policy with a parent or guardian. Parents and guardians can contact us at the address below with any question about a student's data, or to have it deleted.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
